Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Semira ("the app"). By using the app, you agree to these terms.

1. What Semira does

Semira helps you find halal restaurants and mosques. We provide location-based listings, community verification, and prayer time calculations.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Semira. By using the app, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.

3. Accounts

An account is optional. You can browse without signing in. If you create an account via Apple or Google sign-in, you are responsible for maintaining access to your sign-in provider.

4. Community contributions

When you submit verification votes or comments, they become publicly visible to other users. You agree that your contributions are:

• Truthful and based on your genuine experience
• Not abusive, discriminatory, or misleading
• Your own — not copied from other sources

We may remove contributions that violate these guidelines or moderate negative votes before they are published.

5. Accuracy of information

Restaurant and mosque listings are sourced from public directories, certification bodies, and community contributions. We do our best to keep information accurate, but we cannot guarantee that every listing is current or correct. Always verify halal certification directly with the establishment if it is important to you.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Scrape, copy, or redistribute our data
• Submit false or misleading verification votes
• Attempt to access other users' data
• Use the app for any unlawful purpose

7. Data sources and attribution

Semira includes data from the following sources:

• OpenStreetMap — mosque data is sourced from OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Data Commons Open Database Licence (ODbL). © OpenStreetMap contributors.
• Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC) — certified outlet listings
• Halal Meat Authority (HMA) Canada — certified establishment listings
• Google Maps Platform — place data and photos, subject to Google Maps Terms of Service

8. Intellectual property

The Semira name, logo, and app design are our property. Third-party data is attributed to its respective sources as described above.

9. Termination

You can stop using the app at any time. You can delete your account in the app or by contacting us. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Semira is provided "as is". We are not liable for decisions you make based on information in the app, including dietary or religious decisions. Use the app as a guide, not as a definitive authority on halal status.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The effective date at the top will change. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
